At just over the halfway stage of the 2024/25 Premier League season, the fight for top honours - and survival - is in full swing.
While teams are battling it out at both ends of the table, there are additional narratives playing out for individual honours, including the Golden Boot.
Manchester City striker Erling Haaland has comfortably claimed the top scorer award in each of the past two seasons, finishing with 36 goals in 2022/23 – a Premier League record – and 27 in 2023/24.
The Norwegian is looking to become the first player since Alan Shearer to win the award three years on the bounce, but faces stiff competition this time around.
The likes of Mohamed Salah and Cole Palmer were already expected to be among the names pushing Haaland for the award, but this season also sees a number of surprises on the goal-getting front.
Mohamed Salah – 18 Goals
At the age of 32, when many would have perhaps expected a drop in his output, the Egyptian is instead having the time of his life in a phenomenal season that currently sees him top the scoring charts, in line with his Liverpool side topping the Premier League.
Salah, a three-time winner of the award, is currently averaging a goal every 93 minutes, the best of any player in the division.

Erling Haaland – 16 goals
A scarcely believable 10 goals in his first five outings this campaign – including back-to-back hat-tricks – made it look as though there would not even be competition for an award he has already claimed twice in his first two seasons in England.
However, a slump in form for both the player and his City team saw him find the back of the net just once in seven matches towards the end of the year, but three goals in his latest two matches look to have set him ominously back on track.
Alexander Isak – 13 goals
The Geordies LOVE a centre-forward and with Swedish striker Isak in red-hot form, few are doubting his ability to try and emulate the great Shearer in black and white.
Isak currently finds himself on a run of scoring in seven consecutive Premier League matches as he eyes not only the Golden Boot, but also the league record of scoring in 11 successive games.
Cole Palmer – 13 goals
Chelsea’s ‘one-season wonder’ continues to make a mockery of those who did not expect him to continue his sensational form from last term.
After a somewhat slow start, the forward burst into life with a record-breaking four-goal haul against Brighton in September and has not looked back, spearheading The Blues’ unlikely title push this season.

Bryan Mbeumo – 13 goals
The loss of Ivan Toney might have had some people wondering who would shoulder the goalscoring responsibility at the Gtech Stadium this year, but along with Yoane Wissa, Brentford fans barely even think about their former striker these days.
Cameroon star Mbeumo has been the main beneficiary of Thomas Frank’s attacking style with The Bees, and has been more lethal in front of goal than anybody else on this list, with his 13 strikes coming from just 1.75 shots per 90 mins and 1.05 shots on target per 90.

Chris Wood – 12 goals
As we marvel at Salah’s achievements in his 30s, one might say that the 33-year-old Kiwi journeyman’s efforts this year are just as impressive.
Wood’s goals in red this campaign have catapulted Nottingham Forest into previously unexpected UEFA Champions League qualification contention and, on a personal note, currently leaves him just two goals shy of his best return in the division with almost half the season yet to play.

Yoane Wissa – 10 goals
Alongside Mbeumo, Wissa’s goals mean Brentford are currently the only team in the top flight with more than one player on double figures this campaign.
But for a month-long absence with an ankle injury after three goals in his first four matches, Wissa’s tally may well have been even more impressive at this stage.

Matheus Cunha – 10 goals
Despite Wolves’ struggles this season, without the contribution of Cunha on the scoring front, things might well have been a lot worse.
Outperforming his xG of 4.08 by a notable distance, helped by one or two excellent long-range strikes, the Brazilian’s form has provided signs of life for the team as they look to claw their way out of the relegation mire.
