Aaron Ramsdale is poised for another transfer within a year, with Newcastle United reportedly preparing a bid for the goalkeeper. Ramsdale joined Southampton just last summer, with the Saints shelling out £25million to Arsenal for his services.

However, it's been a dismal season on the South Coast, with the club managing only one victory and languishing at the bottom of the Premier League. Despite Ramsdale being one of the few shining lights, he has still let in 27 of the 44 top-tier goals conceded by Southampton this season.

He also missed six matches due to a finger injury. His performances, however, could offer him a lifeline from Southampton's impending relegation. It is widely anticipated that Ramsdale will depart in the summer if the Saints are relegated.

According to The Sun, Newcastle have taken note of his situation. The Magpies are said to be 'firmly' in the market for a new goalkeeper, with Ramsdale now their prime target.

They had previously considered Burnley's James Trafford, but he is expected to stay at Turf Moor. This has led Newcastle to consider other options, and they are now preparing a bid for Ramsdale.

Newcastle could make a move as early as this month to lure Southampton into a deal. With Nick Pope's season once again marred by injuries, his long-term future at St James' Park is uncertain. Ramsdale is highly valued by Toon boss Eddie Howe, who is prepared to let Pope's deputy Martin Dubravka depart this month.

Dubravka's anticipated move to Saudi Arabia hinges on a 'top-class replacement' being secured. Ramsdale, a former Premier League golden glove winner with Arsenal, lost his spot to David Raya and has made it clear that playing time will be a priority in his future club decisions.

"If I was sitting on the bench, it [winning a trophy] wouldn't have meant that much to me," Ramsdale confessed to Football Focus in October. "I just wanted to play football. As a kid I wanted to play football to play, not to just sit on a bench.

"Getting out and playing was my aim so I'm lucky I found myself here at Southampton. I did an interview with David Seaman about my new contract (in May, 2023) and I wanted to emulate him and be there (at Arsenal) for eight, 10 years.

"A couple of months later I was out of the team He (Raya) was actually the first person to text me on my move here (to Southampton) out of the Arsenal boys. He was great. He was top."
