A quick phone call from John Eustace was all Dion Sanderson needed to join Blackburn Rovers on loan for the second half of the season.

Sanderson has reunited with former Birmingham City boss Eustace at Ewood Park after finding first team opportunities hard to come by at St Andrew's @ Knighthead Park. Sanderson has only played two league games for Blues this term.

The club's former captain has fallen behind Krystian Bielik, Christoph Klarer and Rangers loanee Ben Davies in Chris Davies' defensive pecking order. Sanderson has played seven games in total across the first half of the campaign.

Eustace has handed the 25-year-old a Championship chance and Sanderson will compete with Danny Batth and Dom Hyam for a place in Rovers' line-up. By joining Rovers, Sanderson has linked up with Eustace at a third different club.

After signing for Rovers, Sanderson said: "I had him at QPR when he was the assistant and I got on really well with him, then he went to Birmingham City as a manager. Funnily enough he gave me a ring asking if I wanted to play some football and I said, ‘Yeah, sure!’.

"Every game I played under him was brilliant. He’s a great manager to play for, I love his style of play, his staff are class. The desire and the hunger he has towards the fans, I’ve seen it at this club but especially at Birmingham, made me want to come and play for Blackburn.

"He’s a manager I want to play for and work with. It makes it easier to come down to Blackburn knowing how he wants to play and what he wants from his players."
