Lille star Jonathan David makes Liverpool stance clear after free transfer audition
Lille striker Jonathan David continued his impressive Champions League goalscoring record against Liverpool on Tuesday and gave his verdict on the Reds following the game
Jonathan David believes Liverpool could be the best team in the world following their Champions League win over Lille.
The French side's forward scored at Anfield to cancel out Mo Salah's opening goal. But with the Ligue 1 outfit already down to 10 men, Harvey Elliott's goal ensured three points and qualification for the last 16 of Europe's premier competition.
David has now scored against Liverpool, Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid and Juventus this term. The Canada international is in the final six months of his contract and is set to be available on a free transfer in the summer.
The 25-year-old has previously been on a Liverpool shortlist, when the club signed Diogo Jota. The Reds have been linked with a move for David, who is not expected to sign a contract extension in France.

"Very good team," he said following the game. "I think they might be the best team in the world at the moment.
"Tonight is one more goal [for me]. I'm happy I managed to score but we didn't manage to get the three points."
"We came against the first of the Champions League group so we knew it was going to be a complicated game even more so when we went to 10 men," he added. "It's frustrating, we wanted to hold on as long as we could but it's very difficult.
"Today wasn't our day. The togetherness. Everyone is very solid and compact. We want to play and play our game this is how we're going to get further."
David has already revealed he is open to a Premier League move in the summer. But it is not the only destination he is focused on as he considers the next step in his career.
"What am I waiting for? I guess now it’s easier to say. I’m in the last year of my contract,” David said earlier this season. "Eventually my contract is going to run out. So then we’ll see. We’ll see what happens next year. I’m open to anything.
"I think obviously the Premier League is regarded as one of the best leagues in the world . And for me it’s not the Premier League or bust. I’m open to anything and every league has its challenges."
David’s representatives have recently reiterated that everything is on the table when it comes to his future.
