Echoes of 2023 Old Firm flash point as Celtic star Kyogo sees first half hat-trick WIPED OUT against Young Boys

STRIKERS feel hard done by whenever they have a goal disallowed.
So imagine how Celtic star Kyogo Furuhashi felt as he had THREE chopped off - all in one half!
The Hoops ace hit the back of the net on three occasions in their Champions League clash against BSC Young Boys tonight.
But none of them counted and with record signing Arne Engels missing a penalty, it meant the score at half-time was 0-0 despite the home side's dominance.
Two of the strikes were ruled out for offside but it took an intervention from VAR to cancel out the other.
For Kyogo's first effort, he was adjudged to be offside.
And for the third both he and Daizen Maeda were caught out ahead of the play.
But the second goal looked like it was sure to stand - until the notice came up of an impending VAR check.
And as the referee headed to the monitor to review the incident, he noticed a foul in the build up.
Celtic had won the ball high-up the park as the Swiss side tried to play out from the back.
Skipper Callum McGregor nicked the ball from Cheikh Niasse and subsequently played Kyogo in, who made no mistake as he drove towards goal and drilled a shot into the bottom corner with his left foot.
But no sooner had the majority of the 60,000 inside Celtic Park began dancing with joy, they were brought to a nervous standstill.
As the screens around the stadium showed the goal was being checked by VAR, a sense of dread came over the Hoops faithful as whistler Rohit Saggi ran over to the monitor.
The replays showed that McGregor had kicked Niasse in the calf before winning the ball and the goal was disallowed.
The incident evoked memories of an Old Firm derby clash in 2023.
Rangers forward Kemar Roofe thought he'd put the Light Blues ahead 28 minutes into the September 3 fixture.
But that strike was ruled out because Cyriel Dessers was seen to have unjustly won the ball from Celtic defender Gustaf Lagerbielke in the build-up, with that tangle looking eerily similar to McGregor and Niasse's.
In the aftermath, the Ibrox club demanded answers from the SFA on the incident.
