Ryan Reynolds has shared a laugh about how David Beckham got caught in the middle of his playful banter with Tom Brady on WhatsApp.

The Wrexham co-owner revealed the light-hearted exchanges he had with the NFL icon, who holds a minority stake in League One rivals Birmingham City, ahead of their clash at the Racecourse Ground on Thursday evening. The previous encounter at St Andrew's in September saw a glitzy turnout with Brady and Beckham watching as Birmingham triumphed over Reynolds' team 3-1.

Although the "Deadpool" actor couldn't attend, he was actively messaging the duo from afar as they enjoyed the match from the directors' box. Reynolds admitted to dishing out jokes, mainly poking fun at age and looks, but now wonders if he might have pushed the teasing too far.

On the Men in Blazers podcast, the Hollywood star, aged 48, confessed: "I wasn't able to be at the Birmingham match, but he (Brady) was sitting with Beckham, and I was s*** texting both of them, mostly failing bone structure and age-related sort of material. It wasn't my finest moment and I hate that they're both kind people in real life."

While Reynolds missed the last game against Birmingham, fellow Wrexham co-owner Rob McElhenney did make an appearance, even sharing a pitch-side chat with Brady. The "It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia" creator was left red-faced when the quarterback heard a clip of him vowing to injure the arm of the seven-time Super Bowl champion, reports the Mirror.

Brady got a look at McElhenney's TV character, Mac, bragging about rallying his friends to beat him up due to his aversion for the then-Patriots star. When asked who was more eager to triumph over Brady now, Reynolds didn't hesitate to respond.

He added: "Would I love to beat Tom Brady at sports? The answer is an emphatic yes. Would Rob? Maybe more so. Rob has a skosh more rabies about it all and about everything, but God bless it. It's great. We're very clear that we're Canadian and American and we balance each other beautifully."

Reynolds initially played coy when asked if he would attend tonight's game, yet later hinted at the possibility, remarking: "It is definitely on the cards." As for Beckham, there seems to be no real bad blood between the actor and the former England footballer.

Beckham had been seen mingling with Reynolds at Wembley during Wrexham's FA Trophy final against Bromley in May 2022. Moreover, in June of the same year, Beckham expressed admiration for Reynolds and McElhenney's positive influence on the Welsh club.

Reflecting on his role as club co-owner with MLS team Inter Miami, the storied midfielder commented on the parallels with setting up a team stateside: "I do think they play into it. That's why I moved to America in 2007 with my family to join the MLS and to join the Galaxy - because I knew that there was potential."

"It was always going to be a challenge, and I'm glad that I played a small role in making the league as big as it is now, but it takes moments like what we've just done," he said. He went on to commend Wrexham's owners, stating: "It takes things like 'Ted Lasso,' and it takes people like Ryan and Rob to give it that bit of air."
