David Moyes delivers blunt verdict on Dominic Calvert-Lewin's goals - 'He needs to be told'
Dominic Calvert-Lewin scored his first goal in 17 games in the win over Tottenham and David Moyes wants more from the former England striker
David Moyes claims Dominic Calvert-Lewin needs some “tough love” to get him scoring again regularly for Everton.
Calvert-Lewin impressed in the vital win over Tottenham and bagged the opener with his first goal in 17 games and only his third of the campaign. Moyes says the former England hitman should have scored more and says his team-mates are creating enough opportunities for him.
He wants more goals from Calvert-Lewin to help Everton stay up this season before they head to their new Bramley Moore Dock home. “I have seen a difference in him,” said the Everton boss. “I think there’s just a wee bit more eye of the tiger.
“He was rightly praised for his performance at the weekend. I was still saying he should have probably scored a couple more, we talked about that as well.
“Maybe we need a wee bit of tough love with him as well. He needs to be told, but also given the confidence and shown what you can do, you’ve got all the capabilities.
“If I’m a centre-forward, I wouldn’t be complaining about the opportunities that the team have made him in the last couple of games. He’s been given three or four really big chances. He’s taken one, we’d like him to take more and hope he keeps playing the way he has done this last week.”
Calvert-Lewin will lead Everton’s attack at Brighton on Saturday as the Blues try to continue to climb away from the relegation zone. They will have to do without Dwight McNeil and Moyes revealed the winger may need surgery to clear up his knee problem.

Moyes cannot put a timescale on his return, but admits he could be out until March if he has an operation.
“It looks like Dwight is probably going to have to have some surgery on his knee,” he said at his press conference on Friday. “If you get opened up, I don’t think people come back quicker than four to six weeks if they get opened up.”
