The future of Emi Buendia is under the microscope as we approach the end of the transfer window.

Leeds United have been heavily linked with a move for Buenda whose contract at Aston Villa expires in 18 months, though it is due to be extended until 2027 according to The Athletic. The Whites are managed by Buendia’s former Norwich City boss Daniel Farke and are on course to win promotion to the Premier League.

Farke wants Buendia to help Leeds over the line in the Championship title race but, according to The Sun, the Argentine midfielder isn’t keen on a return to the second tier. Buendia is said to waiting to see what offers emerge from Premier League clubs in the closing days of the window. German side Bayer Leverkusen are also reportedly keen on Buendia.

The 28-year-old missed the whole of last season with a serious knee injury but he has played 18 games for Villa this season and started Tuesday’s Champions League defeat to Monaco.

Unai Emery praised Buendia’s attitude afterwards: “Today, especially with Emi Buendia, because he has the option to leave but today we needed him and he played fantastic with his qualities, fantastic mentality and fantastic with his commitment with the squad."
