The real reason Kyogo to Rennes is delayed as Celtic 'eye' perfect symmetry with Jota announcement imminent

The striker had been expected to seal a move to Ligue 1 last week

Outgoing Kyogo Furuhashi has reportedly seen his big signing announcement at Rennes held up as Celtic are eyeing perfect symmetry in their bid to unveil Jota.

The 30-year-old has been in France since Thursday with fans awaiting the unveiling of the £10m recruit from the Scottish Premiership leaders. Rennes boss Jorge Sampaoli has been playing his cards close to his chest over the delay in bringing in the new frontman - but did admit that he had expected the Japan international to get some minutes during Saturday's defeat to Monaco.

But the reason for the delay appears to surround Jota heading in the opposite direction for an £9m fee. The winger is in Glasgow to seal a return to Celtic from the Ligue 1 side and a deal is set to come down to timing - with Ouest-France claiming that the Hoops want to coincide the departure of Kyogo with the unveiling of the Portuguese winger with time ticking on the January window.

Record Sport understands that Celtic could finalise the £9m return of Jota on Monday - and set a frantic end to the transfer window in motion. It could clear an exit path for Luis Palma - who has been on the fringes of the squad throughout the campaign.

The Sun report PAOK are the latest club to show an interest in the Honduran. Olympiacos and Panathanaikos are also said to be interested in Palma - who has suitors in the MLS.
