Fulham manager Marco Silva thought Manchester United were "very lucky" to inflict a 1-0 defeat on his team at Craven Cottage on Sunday evening.

United edged what was a largely forgettable contest via a deflected effort from Lisandro Martinez with just 12 minutes of regulation time left on the clock.

The Reds had struggled to create opportunities all evening, so much so they left the capital having registered just one shot on target, despite it being enough to secure all three points.

Fulham had the better of the chances and came within a whisker of equalising when Toby Collyer cleared Joachim Andersen's header off the line in the dying stages. As a result, Fulham chief Silva felt his side was unfortunate not to come away with anything, describing the result as "really unfair".

"I think it was cruel for us tonight," Silva admitted. "The result, their first shot on [target] on 78 minutes, I think clearly we were the team that had more control.

"Our pressure was really good first half, we created enough chances probably to score a goal in the during the first half. We didn't give anything for them. I don't remember one dangerous moment from them during the first half.

"Our second half was not as good. Unfortunately for us, a really lucky goal, deflection, they scored. After was the reaction from ourselves.

"They came with a low block, they had players around the box. We had a great chance with Andersen from a corner.

"I think the result is really unfair for us, it is not what we deserve from the game, but football is like that. The margins always play a big part in it, and they are very lucky to win tonight."
