THE MAN who signed Kyogo Furuhashi for Rennes has lost his job - just DAYS after the Celtic star made the move to France.

Kyogo completed a £10m move to Ligue 1 earlier this week.

The move was first reported as a goer last week by SunSport, in the hours after the Hoops' Champions League win over BSC Young Boys.

The 30-year-old has effectively swapped a title charge for a relegation battle but he insists he wanted to leave Celtic for the chance to play in a better overall league.

In stark contrast to sitting pretty at the top of the league with Celts, Kyogo now faces the task of keeping Rennes in the top flight.

After being handed the number seven jersey, Kyogo could make his debut against Strasbourg this Sunday.

Rennes are in 16th in Ligue 1 at the moment, which is the league's relegation play-off spot.

They've lost four on the spin including last weekend's 3-2 defeat to Monaco.

And that proved to be the tipping point for boss Jorge Sampaoli.

After reports suggested his future as boss was hanging by a thread, his departure has now been confirmed.

Rennes said: "By mutual agreement, Stade Rennais F.C. and Jorge Sampaoli, who held the position of coach of the professional team, are ending their collaboration.

"Grateful for his investment and respectful of his remarkable professional experience, Stade Rennais F.C. wishes Jorge Sampaoli good luck for the rest of his career."

Sampaoli only took over in Brittany on November 11 last year but results haven't improved under him compared to previous incumbent Julien Stephan.

Kyogo is likely to make his debut this weekend either as a starter or from the bench.

The Japanese forward said after joining the club: "I am very excited about discovering Stade Rennais and my new teammates. I hope to quickly contribute to the team’s performance.

"After very good years with Celtic, I was looking for a new challenge in a prestigious league.

"Physically, technically, Ligue 1 is very competitive.

"The coach and the managers expressed their desire to see me bring my qualities and my experience.

"The club is not in its usual position compared to recent seasons, the objective for us will be to move up the rankings. I feel ready to give the best of myself with Rennes."

Sampaoli also sanctioned the departure of Jota in the other direction.
