Ruben Amorim gives Lisandro Martinez update after Manchester United star taken off on stretcher

Man Utd defender Lisandro Martinez picked up an injury in the second half of Sunday's game against Crystal Palace.

Martinez's injury looked serious.

Ruben Amorim believes Manchester United defender Lisandro Martinez has suffered a "serious" injury.

Martinez went down with an injury just after the 75th minute in Sunday's game against Crystal Palace and was taken off on a stretcher after receiving medical attention.

The centre-back's knee appeared to buckle after landing from an aerial duel and he looked distraught as he was taken off on a stretcher, raising fears he'd suffered a serious injury.

Amorim was asked to provide an update on Martinez by MUTV and said: "He's going to be seen by the doctor, but I think it's a serious situation, so it's really bad for our team."

During his post-match press conference, Amorim told reporters: "Licha is really important for us, not just as a football player, but as a character, especially in this hard moment. Now it’s time to help Licha. I think it’s a bad situation. Let’s wait to assess things with the doctor but I think it’s a serious situation."

Martinez will now be assessed by medical staff. Fans will hope for positive news, but the 27-year-old could be facing another lengthy spell on the sidelines.

Since signing from Ajax in the summer of 2022, Martinez has dealt with a metatarsal fracture, a foot injury and a knee injury, meaning he's missed a lot of football since his arrival at United.

In February 2024, Martinez damaged the medial collateral ligament in his knee during a clash with West Ham and was subsequently absent for most of the second half of last season.
