Manchester United starlet Amad has sent a heartfelt message to Lisandro Martinez after the popular centre-back suffered a season-ending injury against Crystal Palace on Sunday afternoon.

With the Reds 1-0 down against the Eagles - at that stage - Martinez collapsed to the ground as his knee buckled from underneath him. After the match, Ruben Amorim told reporters that it looked to be a serious injury after the centre-back was carried off on a stretcher.

The Manchester Evening News understands that Martinez has suffered a cruciate knee ligament injury - and could be out of action for as long as nine months. It means that he will not only will he miss the remainder of this season, but he also will miss pre-season and may only come back in either October or November, as well.

Taking to social media platform Instagram after the news (regarding the extent of the injury) was confirmed, Amad sent his well wishes to his teammate. "You will come back stronger Hermano," the Ivorian wrote, accompanied with a picture of himself hugging the defender on the pitch at Old Trafford.

When asked about how big a miss Martinez will be, Amorim went on: "Licha is really important for us, not just as a football player, but as a character, especially in this hard moments, now it's time to help Licha like he's doing for so long. I think it's a bad situation, let's wait to assess things with the doctor but I think it's a serious situation."

United could call upon new signing Ayden Heaven to replace Martinez during his spell on the side-lines - after the former Arsenal starlet arrived at Old Trafford on Saturday. Amorim could also utilise Luke Shaw, Noussair Mazraoui or Jonny Evans in the Argentine's absence.
