Aston Villa have signed centre-back Axel Disasi from Chelsea on loan for the rest of the season.
Tottenham were also reportedly in discussions with the French defender on deadline day before he made the switch to Villa Park.
Villa were looking to sign a new centre-back after Diego Carlos’s departure to Fenerbahce in January.
Disasi made six Premier League appearances for Chelsea this term, as well as 11 further appearances in cup competitions.
Indeed, in a large spate of those games, Disasi played at right-back, while he captained the Blues in the UEFA Europa Conference League.
Disasi has made 60 appearances since moving to Stamford Bridge from Monaco in the summer of 2023, but failed to establish himself as a regular starter.
The Frenchman has four years left on the six-year deal he signed a year-and-a-half ago.
"Aston Villa is delighted to announce the loan signing of Axel Disasi from Chelsea," read a statement on the Aston Villa website.
"The Frenchman joins Villa on a deal until the end of the season.
"Disasi has amassed over 300 senior club appearances as well as being capped five times at international level.
"The central defender has experience in the Champions League and has also represented his country at the FIFA World Cup."
Disasi is Villa’s fifth January signing after the arrivals of Andres Garcia and Donyell Malen as well as the loan signings of Marco Asensio and Marcus Rashford.
Spurs, who are in the midst of a defensive injury crisis, had been interested in Disasi’s services.
Ange Postecoglou’s men are without Cristian Romero and left-back Destiny Udogie, while Micky Van de Ven and Ben Davies have only just returned after a sustained period on the sidelines.
Meanwhile, it has been widely reported that Radu Dragusin is set to miss the rest of the 2024/25 season after suffering an anterior cruciate ligament injury in his right knee last Thursday against Elfsborg.
Last week, they completed the signing of Kevin Danso from Spurs on loan from Ligue 1 side Lens, with an obligation to buy for £21 million in the summer.
