Neil Lennon names future Celtic captain who is ‘very highly thought of’ – even though he’s never played a top team game

NEIL LENNON reckons Celtic have a future captain on their hands.
That's despite the fact the player in question has NEVER played for the Hoops first team.
Celtic have a rich history of long-serving captains.
Current skipper Callum McGregor, who has now crossed the 500 appearance mark for the club, has been wearing the armband for the past four years and with a contract running until 2028, he won't be vacating that role any time soon.
Before McGregor, Scott Brown had skippered the side for 11 years after taking over from Stephen McManus in 2010.
Exactly who will take over from McGregor, 31, remains to be seen.
But Celts legend Neil Lennon reckons there's a future captain already on the books at Parkhead.
19-year old Kyle Ure has yet to feature for the Hoops first time.
But Lennon thinks he could have what it takes to lead the side.
Celtic certainly see a bright midfielder for the future, too, signing him to a new contract just last week.
Ure extended his deal by two years, keeping him at Celtic Park until 2027.
Rising through the academy ranks with the Hoops, Ure captained the under-18s to the Scottish Youth Cup in 2023, beating Rangers 6-5 in a remarkable final at Hampden.
Ure has gone on to be a regular in the Celtic B team.
Lennon, himself a former club captain, reckons it's great news for the Hoops to get Ure tied down on a new deal.
And he's tipped him to follow in Callum McGregor's footsteps and potentially become Hoops captain.
Lennon told casino-uden-rofous.co: "Kyle Ure has played really well in the UEFA Youth League and it’s great to see him signing an extension with Celtic, he is very highly thought of.
"There will no doubt be suitors looking on, but it’s great that he has pledged his future to the club because there are some great role models in the building including Callum McGregor who he can look up to.
"Everyone at Celtic is delighted to have him on board and now is the time to develop him into a first team player where he can really mature.
"I think the club can get the best out of him and with his leadership qualities, why can’t he even be a future captain."
Celtic extended their Scottish Premiership lead to 13 points last night.
Brendan Rodgers' side thumped Dundee 6-0 at Celtic Park in a game rearranged from Storm Eowyn.
