UEFA Women's Champions League draw: Manchester City face Chelsea in blockbuster quarter-final, Arsenal meet Real Madrid
Manchester City will face Chelsea in an all-English quarter-final in the UEFA Women's Champions League, while Arsenal meet Real Madrid. City and Chelsea have never faced one another in the Champions League and the same can be said for Arsenal and Las Blancas, the latter being founded from CD TACON in 2020. Chelsea and Manchester City have been drawn in a blockbuster UEFA Women's Champions League quarter-final.
Arsenal, the only English side to win the competition, in 2007, will face Real Madrid, who have only ever played in one final-eight clash, losing to Barcelona in 2022.
Elsewhere, two-time champions Wolfsburg have a tough tie against three-time winners and holders Barcelona, while Bayern Munich have runaway Premiere Ligue leaders Lyon to contend with.
By virtue of the sides meeting in the Women's League Cup final on March 15, as well as their second Women's Super League (WSL) meeting of the season falling on March 23, City and Chelsea will face off four times in less than two weeks.
The first legs of the quarter-finals will be played on March 18-19, with the return fixture arriving on March 26-27.
Chelsea will fancy their chances of overcoming WSL rivals Manchester City, having topped their Champions League group with a 100% win record and remain unbeaten in domestic competitions too.
Sonia Bompastor's first season in charge of The Blues has been almost flawless, with a 1-1 draw against Leciester City the only match that has not ended in a Chelsea victory across all competitions.
Most recently, Chelsea sealed their spot in the League Cup final, where they will again play Gareth Taylor's side, the first of the four-part all-blue epic.
Whichever English club progresses has a final-four clash with one of Barcelona or Wolfsburg as their prize.
This opens the possibility for a replay of the 2021 final, in which Barcelona humbled Emma Hayes' Chelsea 4-0 in Gothenburg.
Arsenal, meanwhile, are entering a joint-record 16th quarter-final and topped their group despite falling to a damaging 5-2 defeat to Bayern Munich.
But a dramatic 3-2 comeback victory against the German champions on the final matchday secured their seeded spot in Friday's draw.
This meant Renee Slegers' side avoided ties against the group winners, instead earning a draw against Real Madrid, who are currently sitting second in Liga F, five points shy of table-topping Barcelona.
