Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs slams 'poor' decisions after his Old Trafford departure

Man United are in the doldrums again this season and more poor decision-making from the club is to blame.

Ryan Giggs has slammed Manchester United for making "poor decision after poor decision" in the last 10 years, but he believes Ruben Amorim will bring success back to Old Trafford.

Following Sir Alex Ferguson's retirement, David Moyes appointed Giggs as a player-coach in the summer of 2013 and he eventually became the interim boss when Moyes was sacked.

Giggs subsequently became Louis van Gaal's assistant and he became manager of Wales in 2018, but he was made to officially step down from that role in 2022 and he now works as Salford City's director of football, the club which is partly-owned by members of the Class of '92.

The Manchester Evening News recently spoke to Giggs ahead of Salford's game against Manchester City and the Welshman discussed his hands-on role, and playing golf with Pep Guardiola.

After a period of limited public appearances, Giggs' face is regularly seen on Salford matchdays and he spoke about United at 'An Evening with Ryan Giggs' even earlier in the week.

Giggs shared his thoughts on the current ongoings at Old Trafford and slammed United's poor decision-making in the last decade, although he backed Amorim to turn the sinking ship around.

“Like any business, recruitment needs to be right and it hasn’t been for the last ten years. We’ve just made poor decision after poor decision,” Giggs explained.

“Now it’s whether Ruben gets the players he needs, the support he needs and the time. We’re in a bad place at the moment but, first of all, I have to say I actually really like the manager.

"I think given a chance and given the time, Amorim will bring success back. If we get the right players in and the manager gets time, we will be alright. But at the moment, we are miles off it. We’re nowhere near - we are a long, long way behind - but it can soon turn around.

“We’ve tried giving managers a little bit of time but now he needs a bit longer - three or four transfer windows, I think. It’s whether he gets the players he needs, the support he needs, the time.”

United are currently 13th in the Premier League. The Reds have a -6 goal difference and scraped a last minute victory against Leicester City in the FA Cup fourth round on Friday night.

Amorim was appointed in November but hasn't been able to inspire an upturn in fortunes.
