Chris Davies lists Kieran Dowell skills after Rangers loanee's perfect start at Birmingham City
Kieran Dowell scored his first Birmingham City goal in the 4-0 win over Cambridge United
Chris Davies toasted Kieran Dowell after the Rangers loanee continued his perfect start to life in a Birmingham City shirt with a starring role in the victory over Cambridge United.
Dowell netted the third goal of Blues’ 4-0 win with an arrowed left-footed finish to cap a fine team move that saw the ball worked from back to front with a series of incisive passes. Five games into his Blues career, Dowell has made himself a fixture in the line-up and Davies rates him highly.
“I’m really pleased and really impressed physically,” Davies reflected on Dowell’s superb start at St Andrew’s. “He’s not played a lot of football at Rangers but he covers some distance. Even his goal, he could have easily stayed back rather than follow the attack and sprinting into the box. He took his goal well. He’s got real legs.
“I’ve used him in four different positions already, he is tactically really astute, switched on, a good character, I don’t think he could have wished for a better start.”
Jay Stansfield and Luke Harris also netted in Blues’ biggest League One win of the season. Blues now have a lead of seven points at the top of the table, with a game-in-hand.
“It’s our biggest win of the season,” said Davies. “I felt we were due one of these results with the dominance and chances we’ve had in games, so I was really pleased to get it.
“The question to be answered tonight was how we were going to come out after a lot of emotion and energy that went into the Newcastle game and I thought the players answered it with their mentality, attitude, energy, determination and it was all there from the first whistle and that’s why we managed to win the first half 3-0 and give ourselves a great chance in the game.”
