Kai Havertz will undergo surgery on a torn hamstring which will keep him out for the rest of the season.

Arsenal have officially confirmed the striker suffered the injury during the club’s mid-season break in Dubai and now the hope is he will be back for pre-season in July. It is a huge blow for Arsenal who now do not have a recognised fit striker at the club with Gabriel Jesus also out with a long term knee injury while Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli are also out.

Gunners boss Mikel Arteta may have to use Leandro Trossard as a false nine to carry their title push and Champions League campaign. Arsenal said in a statement: “We can confirm that Kai Havertz has sustained a hamstring injury during a training session in Dubai last week.

“Subsequent assessments and specialist reviews have confirmed that the injury will require surgery, which will take place in the coming days. Soon after surgery, Kai will begin his recovery and rehabilitation programme, which is expected to extend into pre-season preparations for next season.

“Everyone at the club is fully focused on supporting Kai to ensure he is back to full fitness as soon as possible.”
