Jamal Musiala has signed a new contract at Bayern Munich and Chelsea chiefs now know exactly what it would take to bring him back to Stamford Bridge.

German international Musiala spent eight years on Chelsea's books before heading to Bayern in 2019. The 21-year-old moved to England at the age of seven and spent most of his childhood in and around London.

Given the way he has lit up the world stage at club and international level, it is evident that Blues bosses should have done everything in their power to keep hold of Musiala. The youngster, who can play in attacking midfield or out wide, has scored 58 goals in 193 Bayern games and his output is trending upwards.

Hopes of luring Musiala back to Stamford Bridge looked to have been dashed by the player signing a new long-term contract in Bavaria. Bayern announced the deal, which runs until 2030, on Friday. But a closer inspection offers hope to interested clubs.

According to Bild, Musiala's deal includes a £145.6million release clause. While that would make him one of the most expensive signings in history, and the standalone most expensive signing for a Premier League club, Musiala is one of the best young players on the planet.

And Chelsea have not shied away from forking out nine-figure fees in the past. Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez both fetched more than £100m, with Mykhaylo Mudryk not far behind.

The presence of a release clause in Musiala's contract at least gives Chelsea, and other admirers, concrete knowledge of the amount they must pay to force Bayern's hand. But the chance to do so would not come cheap.

As well as the mammoth transfer fee, Musiala is now on big wages at the Allianz Arena. Reports indicate that his pay has roughly quadrupled to around £400,000 a week, which puts him firmly in Harry Kane territory.

Musiala has been tentatively linked with Chelsea in recent months but it remains to be seen whether the Blues would be willing to cough up - particularly with Cole Palmer already laying claim to the No. 10 spot.

Bayern boss Vincent Kompany has spoken highly of Musiala, who is second in the club's Bundesliga scoring charts this campaign behind Kane. "Jamal has so much quality, so it’s normal that a lot of things are being spoken about him," said the former Manchester City captain. "He’s definitely a special player and of course he’s important for us."
