Michael Owen makes worrying Ruben Amorim point after another Manchester United defeat
Ex-Man Utd striker turned TV pundit Michael Owen has raised fears over the direction in which his old club are going after Sunday afternoon's defeat to Tottenham Hotspur.
Michael Owen has offered his backing to Ruben Amorim - but admits it's hard to see the situation at Manchester United getting better any time soon.
The Reds have now slipped down to 15th in the Premier League table - after Sunday afternoon's disappointing 1-0 defeat at Tottenham Hotspur. United had several players missing through injury and illness but have now won just twice in the top-flight this year as they continue to suffer.
Amorim's men created several clear chances in north London, but the Reds continued to struggle in front of goal. United have scored just 28 times in the league all season with strikers Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee netting just 11 times across all competitions between them.
And former Reds striker Owen has offered his gloomy assessment of United's prospects going forward under the former Sporting CP head coach. Whilst praising Amorim, he admits to not liking the side he produces on the pitch.
"It was a game lacking quality, with two average teams, but it's a huge result for Spurs," he told Premier League Productions.
"It's not getting any better for Manchester United, and they don't look like a team at all. I like the manager, I like what he says and his demeanour, but I don't like his team, and it's hard to see it getting any better."
United must now recover in time for next Saturday afternoon's trip to Everton (12.30pm), who are in good form under former Reds manager David Moyes. The Toffees have won four of their last six matches and have lost just twice under the Scotsman so far since his return to Goodison Park last month.
Asked about the defeat to Spurs, Amorim said: "We had the opportunities. We had situations in transitions, and trying to get a result, but in the end they scored and we didn't.
"I'm not worried. I understand our fans, what the media think about it. I hate to lose, that feeling is the worst.
"I'm here to help my players. I understand my situation, my job, I am confident on my work and I just want to win games. The place in the table is my worry, I'm not worried about me."
