Newcastle United have a week to pick themselves up from their Manchester City disappointment, with two huge Premier League games on the horizon. The only bright spot from the Etihad was that Eddie Howe's squad returned to the North East without picking up any new injuries - and are a step closers to two crucial players returning.

Howe made it clear that none of the substitutions he made on Saturday were due to injuries, but while there are not many in the treatment room right now, two players in particular are the big miss to the first-team. United lack a suitable replacement for Joelinton in midfield, while Sven Botman showed in the brief spell he had back in the side, just how much Newcastle have missed him,

Nottingham Forest and Liverpool await in the Premier League in the coming days, before an FA Cup test against Brighton, a trip to Wesat Ham . . . and then that Carabao Cup final date on March 16. Here's the latest Newcastle United injury news and return dates.

He is making good progress," he said. "Joe, when he approaches his injury recoveries, is very positive and driven to get back and shave time off the estimated target he is given. That is a great thing, but also, we need to control that and make sure that he comes back in a really good place. He is very positive at the moment."
