St Johnstone and Kilmarnock begin ‘racist abuse’ investigation after vile insults at SPFL clash

ST JOHNSTONE have appealed for fans to come forward and identify a supporter accused of racist abuse during last weekend’s defeat at Kilmarnock.
Saints chiefs have been made aware of claims one of their travelling support hurled vile insults towards one of the players during the 3-0 Rugby Park defeat.
The incident was reported to stewards and Police Scotland so an investigation is currently underway.
The Perth club said: “We are aware of an allegation of racist abuse in the away end during Saturday’s game at Rugby Park.
“We are working closely with Kilmarnock Football Club and Police Scotland to fully investigate.
“Any supporter with further information is asked to contact the club.
“We are a proud family club and reiterate that there is no place for discrimination in our game or anywhere in society.”
A Kilmarnock statement echoed their opponents'.
It read: "We are working closely with St Johnstone FC and Police Scotland after being made aware of an allegation of racist abuse in the away end during Saturday’s game.
"Discrimination will not be tolerated in any form at BBSP Stadium, Rugby Park."
Meanwhile another club has hit out at fan behaviour from the weekend's games.
League Two Stirling Albion are the latest to condemn fans' use of pyrotechnics in the stands after some supporters were ejected from their game against Forfar.
A statement read: "Stirling Albion Football Club strongly condemns the use of pyrotechnics at [Saturday's] match against Forfar Athletic.
"During the game, a small group of individuals released smoke bombs and a flare within the stadium. This reckless and irresponsible behaviour not only posed a serious safety risk but also caused unnecessary distress to fellow supporters in the West Stand.
"Those responsible were swiftly identified and ejected from the stadium.
"There is no place for such actions at Forthbank Stadium. The use of pyrotechnics is strictly prohibited and carries severe consequences, including stadium bans and potential criminal charges.
"Furthermore, incidents of this nature can have serious repercussions for the club. Under Scottish FA regulations, clubs may face substantial fines and other sanctions due to supporter misconduct.
"We will not allow the irresponsible actions of a few to undermine the values and progress of Stirling Albion.
"Our club takes great pride in fostering a safe, welcoming, and family-friendly environment. Behaviour that endangers others or disrupts the matchday experience will not be tolerated.
"We urge all supporters to respect the safety of others and to channel their passion for the club in a responsible manner."
