Richarlison has taken to social media to reignite his long-running feud with Virgil van Dijk. The rivalry between the two dates back to 2018, when they were involved in a scrap that the forward said he 'was never going to back down' from.

The Brazilian then fanned the flames ahead of the Merseyside derby back in June 2020 when he commented on the Dutchman, saying: “Yes he is a great defender, but I’ve already dribbled past him. For me, there are better defenders.”

And most recently Van Dijk was involved in another clash with Richarlison that saw him escape what some believed should have been a red card for an 'elbow' on the Tottenham forward during Liverpool's Carabao Cup semi-final victory at Anfield.

Van Dijk tangled with Richarlison in the third minute of his side’s 4-0 win and left the former Everton star rolling around holding his face on the floor. Referee Craig Pawson had to pause the match but did not deem the incident a foul.

The video assistant referee (VAR), Michael Salisbury, also checked the incident and decided to stick with Pawson’s original on-field decision. Richarlison, however, believed the Liverpool centre-back had elbowed him.

And now, taking to Instagram, the former Watford star has posted two pictures of him clashing with Van Dijk taken during the tie, with the caption reading: “This time I spoke in English.”

The above wasn’t the only incident involving Van Dijk and Richarlison that caught the eye during the game at Anfield. The Reds skipper would later floor the forward following another duel before offering his hand to help him up, but as the ex-Everton man went to take his hand, the defender left him hanging and walked away.
