Birmingham City handed injury boost before Reading after losing Jay Stansfield
Birmingham City travel to Berkshire to take on Reading in their latest League One fixture on Saturday, 12:30pm kick-off
Emil Hansson is ‘fit and raring to go’ to help Birmingham City over the line in their pursuit of promotion to the Championship.
Swedish winger Hansson has been sidelined for two separate two-month spells this season and last played on December 29 in the 0-0 draw with Blackpool.
The summer signing from Heracles hasn’t enjoyed the debut season he would have wanted in England with one goal and one assist in 17 appearances for Blues.
But he could yet have a part to play in the club’s final 18 games – one of which comes at Wembley in the Vertu Trophy final on April 13 – after recovering from his latest muscular issue.
"Emil Hansson is back training,” Blues manager Chris Davies confirmed on the eve of the trip to Reading. “He’s been training outside of the squad but fit and raring to go for a couple of weeks now.”
Hansson gives Davies another option going forward with top scorer Jay Stansfield now facing a spell on the sidelines with a leg injury. Blues should also be boosted by the return of midfield man Marc Leonard in the coming weeks.
Davies added: “Marc is progressing well. He’s obviously had a deep cut to the knee and is going to get back training in the next week or so.”
