Scott McTominay rise to Napoli superstardom earns ultimate Cesc Fabregas praise despite stumble in Serie A title race
The Como boss upset the Serie A title chasers to leave them trailing top of the table Inter Milan by one point
Cesc Fabregas has told his Como players to be very humble after defeating Napoli - as he singled out Scott McTominay in his post match debrief.
The former Arsenal and Chelsea star sparked an upset in the Serie A title chase as Antonio Conte's men went down 2-1 on the road. They now trail Inter Milan in top spot by one point. Scotland international and fan favourite McTominay has taken to life in Italy like a duck to water and has earned rave reviews and already has the passionate supporter base loving him. He was on the wrong end of the points today - but he was still name-checked post match and called one of the top players in Italy's top flight.
Speaking in his post-match press conference, Fabregas was asked if he had just picked up the most important victory of his managerial career to date, which he replied: "I'm happy, we always tried to play but we have to be very humble and know we're playing against the top players in the league, Lukaku and McTominay who come from Chelsea and United.
"We need humility and courage, in the second half I saw a team with a strong mentality. We saw that they were superior in the first half but we didn't give up and tried to win. Now we have to think about the next one, in football that 10-minute goal no longer exists".
One man who moved to Italy that is familiar to Celtic fans is Alex Valle. His season loan from Barcelona was cut short in January to allow him to then make the switch to Como. His new boss named what he LIKED from the full-back - despite it being a mistake. His performance levels have also caught the eye, despite a lack of time on the training field.
He added: "I'm happy you say that, they are two young players. I like the fact that Alex made a mistake in coming out from behind, he found the one-two and allowed us to get out of the pressure. It's a personality thing, I thank everyone because I know that what I ask is difficult but it's the only way to continue growing.
"You make a mistake and you do it again, resilience is this. I'm happy that the two full-backs are performing well even with little training".
