Barry Ferguson set to be offered Rangers job as next boss search finds instant solution after Clement axed

Legend Barry Ferguson is set to be offered the chance to become Rangers manager.

The decision comes after Philippe Clement was been shown the Ibrox door by Rangers following showdown talks after the defeat to St Mirren. CEO Patrick Stewart has insisted he would resist calls to sack the boss - pointing to the manager's Europa League success this season as one of the key reasons for keeping him in place. Record Sport understands that Ibrox icon Ferguson will be given the chance to lead the club until the end of the campaign - with the club eyeing a temporary successor. A whirlwind deal could be completed within 24 hours with talks ongoing between the iconic former skipper and Rangers powerbrokers. It's not the first time that Ferguson will have stepped into the dugout. In June 2014, the he took his first steps into management as he joined League Two side Clyde.

After a mixed first season with The Bully Wee, he would leave them to the promotion play-offs - and reach the final before suffering defeat to Queen's Park. He would struggle in the following campaign - leaving Clyde in the midst of a relegation scrap. However, he would revive his managerial career at Kelty Hearts.

In 2021, he led the club to he SPFL for the first time in their history - and caught the eye of League One side Alloa. But, after struggling for form in the league Ferguson would resign in February in 2022.
