Argentina's Claudio Echeverri admits 'special connection' behind £12.5m Man City transfer
Claudio Echeverri wants to follow in the footsteps of his countryman Sergio Aguero at Manchester City after becoming Pep Guardiola's latest signing
Claudio Echeverri has admitted he consulted with Manchester City legend Sergio Aguero before deciding to join Pep Guardiola's side.
And Echeverri wants to follow in Aguero's footsteps by going on to become the latest Argentine to help City win a host of trophies.
The attacking midfielder has joined City from River Plate in a £12.5m deal, after agreeing a contract that will keep him at the Etihad until 2028.
And he insists it was Aguero and fellow Argentine and former City star Martin Demichelis who told him to jump at the chance to work with Guardiola.
Echeverri said: "I had a huge desire to come, and now that I'm here, it’s time to enjoy it. To have fun and play, which is what I love the most.
"I've spoken to Agüero. I also talked to Martín Demichelis. They told me it was a great club with amazing players and a beautiful history. They encouraged me to come here and enjoy it.
"Agüero, in particular, stands out. He's a legend here at Manchester City because of everything he achieved and the incredible player he was. I used to watch him play, and honestly, it's an amazing feeling to be here.
"I think there is a special connection between City and Argentina, especially because of the players who have come here and done really well.
"They are all very important players who have played here. I'm at a great club with a lot of history."
