'He'd probably go to' - Ian Wright names likely winner in Alexander Isak Liverpool vs Arsenal transfer battle

Liverpool and Arsenal have both been linked with a summer move for Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak

Ian Wright might be an Arsenal legend but he has admitted he expects his former club to miss out on Alexander Isak to Liverpool if the striker leaves Newcastle United this summer. Isak has been one of the star strikers in the Premier League this season.

Returning 19 goals from 24 goals in the English top flight, only Mohamed Salah and Erling Haaland have scored more than the Sweden international, who has recorded 21 goals in all competitions.

Isak continues to be linked with a big-money exit from St. James’ Park off the back of such form, with the Reds and the Gunners both expected to be in the market for a new forward this summer and touted as potential suitors.

It remains to be seen if Newcastle could sell the 25-year-old at the end of the season, with it reported that they would demand well over £100m for his signature if he were to move on.

Isak remains one of their most important players, but the Magpies have had to sell in the past in order to comply with the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules.

Should Newcastle again miss out on Champions League qualification, they will likely find themselves in a difficult position.

And while Wright would love to see Isak sign for Arsenal, he concedes the Gunners would likely lose out to Liverpool for the forward's signature if both clubs were to make a move.

“I mean, with what he’s done now and how he is, if I had the money I’d buy him for £120m,” Wright said on Stick to Football. “He’d probably go to Liverpool (over Arsenal).

“I’d like to think that Arteta could convince him, but if we’re talking about Slot and the fact Slot doesn’t have his own team, that seems like it may be a more attractive proposition.”
