Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has pinpointed where Ruben Amorim is encountering difficulties at Manchester United, suggesting it's not entirely the coach's fault.

Since taking over from Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford, Amorim's tenure has been underwhelming, with just five wins in 16 Premier League matches, leaving the team in 14th place.

Players are reportedly struggling to adapt to Amorim's rigid 3-4-2-1 system. Solskjaer attributes the problems to a squad composed of players signed by various managers before him.

Speaking to The Athletic, the Norwegian said: "That's for the people at the top (of United), but an issue is that the manager plays with the previous manager's players."

Reflecting on his own time at United, Solskjaer reminisced: "I just remember a great time at United apart from the last six weeks. Great people - and the culture is in the people. Going back to United was like going back to my family, like I'd never been away."

He also compared the familial atmosphere at United to his current club Besiktas, noting the long-standing respect among staff members, reports the Mirror.

Solskjaer, who was dismissed from United in November 2021 after a devastating loss to Watford, remains proud of his efforts at the club despite the absence of silverware and the challenges he faced during his nearly three-year stint.

He believes that the matches against City and Watford were the turning point, but insists that finishing second and third in his two full seasons was a decent achievement considering the competition in the Premier League. "We also made it to a European final, but I understand what Jose (Mourinho) means when he says that his greatest accomplishment was guiding his United team to second place in the league."

Fast forward to today, beleaguered Amorim has an opportunity to secure consecutive wins this season in the coming week.

United are set to face Real Sociedad in the Europa League on Thursday, followed by a showdown with Arsenal in the Premier League a few days later.
