Rangers flops face Union Bears' wrath as ultras unload on sorry stars after miserable Barry Ferguson homecoming
James Tavernier led Gers flops around the stadium before stopping to face the music of the Gers ultras
Rangers flops faced the wrath of the Union Bears after crashing to a THIRD straight home defeat.
Barry Ferguson endured a painful Ibrox homecoming as two first-half goals from Motherwell piled more misery on the crisis-hit club. Cyriel Dessers pegged one back shortly after the break and later had a second controversially ruled out for offside. But the Light Blues could have no complaints over the final result as Well edged out deserved 2-1 winners.
Aside from the jubilant away corner, most of the stadium had emptied at full-time. A small section of Gers ultras housed in the Copland also stayed behind to vent their fury at yet another calamitous defeat. And unlike last Saturday when James Tavernier headed straight down the tunnel following a 2-0 defeat to St Mirren, the captain faced the music as he led his crestfallen teammates around the stadium.
There was no hiding place either. Tavernier and most of the squad gathered in front of the Gers diehards for around 15 seconds, awkwardly lingering as the influential fan group made their feelings abundantly clear. Defender Leon Balogun understood the frustrations as he told Rangers TV: "You sign up for it.
"You need to be ready. If you fall short, you're going to get a harsh reaction. I've lost count of how many games this season. I've played in teams in my career before where we played where it was about not getting relegated and that's what it feels like just now and we're in second place. Imagine that? It's shocking, it's bad."
The defeat leaves Rangers 13 points behind Celtic ahead of the runaway leaders' trip to St Mirren. It also means Brendan Rodgers' side are just FOUR wins away from being crowned champions. Victories against the Buddies, Rangers, Hearts and St Johnstone will see them clinch their 55th title at McDiarmid Park on April 6.
