Anthony Gordon was sent off for a 'disastrous' challenge that sparked a mass brawl during Newcastle's clash with Brighton.

The winger pushed Seagulls defender Jan Paul van Hecke in the back of the head during the FA Cup clash on Sunday. The game was tied 1-1 in the final 10 minutes of normal time at St James' Park. The incident occurred when the former Everton player was battling for the ball with the Dutch centre back.

Referee Anthony Taylor didn't hesitate to produce the red card, meaning he is set to miss the League Cup final. Following the incident, a brawl broke out between both sets of players. He will receive a three game ban unless Newcastle launch a successful appeal.

On ITV co-commentary duties, Ally McCoist said: "Dear me. It's a disaster, not just for Anthony Gordon but for the team. We mentioned in the opening 15 minutes of the game is that if they are going to beat Liverpool they are going to have to be at full strength and have all their players available."
