SPFL promotion hopefuls dump manager over results despite sitting SECOND in league table

NINE games to go. Sitting second in the league table.
Just three points from the summit.
But Brechin City have pulled the plug on Paddy Cregg's tenure at Glebe Park.
The St Johnstone Scottish Cup winner, a one time youth prodigy at both Manchester United and Arsenal, had been in charge since last summer.
But eight months and 25 league games later the former Falkirk, Hibs and St Mirren midfielder has been sacked.
Brechin City chairman Ken Mackie explained: "Whilst we are all disappointed that things have not worked out as we had hoped, football is a results-driven industry and unfortunately recent results have not met expectations.
"We thank Patrick for his efforts in his first venture into Management and wish both him and Logan every success in the future."
Cregg's assistant Logan McConachie has also been axed by the Highland League side.
They slipped out of the SPFL pyramid in 2021, losing the play-off to Barry Ferguson's Kelty Hearts and were demoted to the Highland League.
With Craig Levein an advisor to the board, the Angus club named Hearts legend Andy Kirk as boss for the new era before he moved with the boss to St Johnstone.
Kirk almost restored the famous stadium hedge to the senior structure in 2023 - but Brechin fell at the penultimate hurdle to Lowland league champions The Spartans.
Under Gavin Price, City finished second on goal difference to winners Buckie Thistle, but the Highland League champs were blocked from their promotion bid due to a Scottish FA licensing row.
Instead East Kilbride went straight into a shoot-out with Stranraer.
This season though, under Cregg, Brechin find themselves second again - three points off leaders Brora Rangers with nine games of their promotion bid remaining.
The axe fell after a 1-1 draw with Clachnacuddin and two weeks before a top of the table trip to Brora.
Elsewhere on Sunday, Shaun Maloney was also sacked by Wigan Athletic - a decision slammed by his former-team-mate James McClean.
The ex-Hibs boss and Celtic winger has worked at the top level alongside Roberto Martinez for the Belgian national team.
But with Wigan 15th in skybet League One he was surprisingly axed by the Lancashire club - leaving fans and his ex-team-mate bemused.
