Steven Gerrard ‘wants to go back to Rangers as manager,’ claims ex-Ibrox boss’ former Liverpool teammate

STEVEN GERRARD wants to return to Rangers as manager - according to a former Liverpool teammate.
The Light Blues are on the lookout for a new permanent boss while Gerrard is out of work after leaving Saudi Arabia.
Rangers are searching for a new boss after sacking Philippe Clement at the end of the last month.
The Belgian was axed following a 2-0 home defeat to St Mirren that came two weeks after the dire Scottish Cup loss to Queen's Park.
Barry Ferguson has been placed in interim charge until the end of the season.
The decision on who becomes Rangers' next manager is likely to fall on the incoming new ownership.
An agreement has been reached in principle for an American consortium - led by health insurance entrepreneur Andrew Cavenagh and 49ers chief Paraag Marathe - to take over the Ibrox club.
The Gers are also expected to install a new sporting director in the coming weeks.
With Ferguson overseeing things for the rest of the campaign, bosses will have time to decide on who the club's next permanent manager could be.
In the immediate aftermath of Clement's exit, Steven Gerrard was installed as the early bookmakers' favourite.
Gerrard, 44, is out of work after leaving Al-Ettifaq in Saudi Arabia in January.
He was previously Rangers manager between 2018 and 2021, leading the club to a first league title in a decade just months before his departure.
Gerrard left Rangers for Aston Villa just a few months into the 2021/22 campaign but was sacked by the Premier League club less than a year later.
Stephane Henchoz was a teammate of Gerrard's at Liverpool for six years from 1999 to 2005.
And the former Celtic defender reckons Gerrard WANTS to go back to Rangers as manager.
Speaking to BoyleSports, who offer the latest Cheltenham betting, Henchoz said: "I think Steven Gerrard going back to Rangers would 100 per-cent make sense, he delivered at Rangers during his first spell and I think the fans would be pleased.
"You’d have to ask him but I have the feeling that he wants to go back there because of how well it went and how much he was loved.
"At the moment the club are in a very difficult situation, Barry Ferguson has come in as caretaker manager, we will have to see how things go until the end of the season. I think Steven Gerrard would be a very good solution for the summer.
"At the moment Celtic are far away from Rangers, I was there to see them play Young Boys in the Champions League and they played great football, had great movement and they have great technical players.
"That’s enough to win the title in Scotland. I was surprised at how well they did in the Champions League.
"They have struggled in the past but qualified quite comfortably and then almost took Bayern Munich to extra time in which anything could’ve happened.
"I’ve been really impressed with Brendan Rodgers and at the moment, they are far ahead of Rangers."
