Don Hutchison branded Rangers' stunning victory over Fenerbahce as the result of the night in Europe - and backed 'the Teddy Bears' to get the job done at Ibrox.

Interim boss Barry Ferguson defied the odds by masterminding an emphatic 3-1 win over Jose Mourinho in Istanbul as the Turkish giants suffered their first defeat in 18 games. The result puts Gers in a commanding position to reach the Europa League quarter-finals ahead of next week's return leg in Govan. And ex-Scotland, Liverpool and Everton midfielder Hutchison waxed lyrical about the Light Blues' heroics on TNT Sports' Highlights Show.

He beamed: "That's the result of the night by far. He changes his system and, I say this loosely, went a bit more pragmatic. But they were so good going forward, they could've scored five. They had two goals disallowed - what a result!"

While Ferguson has made it clear he won’t let his team get carried away with the sensational first-leg triumph, Hutchison tipped Rangers to book their place in the last eight against either Atletico Bilbao or Roma. The self-confessed Gers supporter predicted: "I mean, 3-1 going back to Ibrox? They should do [go through]. They are heavy favourites."

Hutchison's verdict raised the eyebrows of Arsenal legend and fellow pundit Martin Keown, who countered: "Young manager, though? Barry Ferguson vs Mourinho? Will he have something up his sleeve? We'll see." Sensing a cautious mood, presenter Matt Smith asked: "You're holding a little bit back, are you Martin?" Keown pointed out: "It's half-time. But it's a good start for Rangers."

Hutchison was having none of it though as he confidently added: "From here, I fancy the Teddy Bears. I fancy them to get it done."
