- MLS. San Diego FC's first MLS home game overshadowed by homophobic chants
LAFC and Seattle Sounders starred in this afternoon's MLS Matchday 3 action. One of the games of the week in the league.
The locals had no problems and won 5-2 against Los Angeles FC. It was a much-needed win for Seattle, who were held to a 0-0 draw by Mexican side Cruz Azul in the Concacaf Champions Cup.
Los Angeles showed an "alternative" team after playing with their starters in the Concacaf Cup during the week. Unlike their rivals, they won big against Columbus.
The match between Seattle and LAFC started very quickly when Kalani Kossa Rienzi surprised everyone with a shot in the 10th minute that the goalkeeper could not do anything about.
Half an hour into the match, Nathan Ordaz tied the game at 1-1 with a rebound off a goalkeeper mishit on a corner kick.
In the 57th minute, Paul Rothrock scored a long-range goal with an impressive right-footed shot that the goalkeeper could not get a handle on due to the power of the shot. With 14 minutes left in the game, a great Seattle move that Jordan Morris could not miss.
In the 83rd minute, Christian Roldan's left-footed shot left the LAFC goalkeeper with no chance, although he could have done much more. In the 91st minute, David Martinez made a great individual goal to prevent the humiliation.
It did little good, as Seattle completed the humiliation in the final minute, Rusnak simply pushing the puck into the box for the 5-2 final.
LAFC fans not happy
The reality is that this was just LAFC's first loss in the championship, but fans have been expressing their displeasure with the way the team has been playing for quite some time.
"New coach coming in. Call it now."
"Giroud thanks for open cup goal, but its time to go."
I'm grateful for everything Cherundolo has done for the club. Regardless of how people feel about him now, he's reached his limit and it's time to part ways.
These were some of the comments from X.
What's next for LAFC and Seattle?
