Axel Disasi is delighted with his start to life at Aston Villa after joining on loan from Chelsea a month ago.

The defender has made five appearances under Unai Emery, but is cup-tied in the FA Cup and was also unable to feature in the 2-1 win over Chelsea because loan players can't face their parent clubs in the Premier League.

Disasi has operated on the right side of defence, either as a right-back or in a back three, and played both roles in the 1-0 win against Brentford at the Gtech Community Stadium on Saturday.

Winning the man of the match award for his excellent display, Disasi told Sky Sports the importance of the victory and how he has settled in at Villa.

"After playing in the Champions League it’s hard to win, but I think today we deserved the three points," he said.

"In the first half we played very well. At the beginning of the second half we scored, and then we saw the character of the team.

"We need to be more consistent. After the game we lost against Palace [in Villa's last league game], we were hungry and wanted to correct it. The game today was the perfect answer because everyone was fighting.

"I just tried to do my best to help the team. I am very happy how everything is going at Villa, everything is top and I have a lot of confidence."

Villa won't play in the league again this month after moving only two points off fourth-placed Manchester City, but the Premier League champions, and other top five hopefuls will play next weekend.

"There are nine games left to go so we’ll take it one game at a time," Disasi added. "We know we have to be higher in the league.

"We just have to stay focused. We have another game on Wednesday. I hope this kind of game will bring confidence to the team."

After being awarded the player of the match, Disasi said: "It is the best gift because Tuesday is my birthday!"
