Former Newcastle United striker Aleksandar Mitrovic has reportedly been taken to hospital following heart complaints.

According to reports in Saudi Arabia via the Mirror, the Serbian forward was admitted to hospital after a 'rapid heartbeat caused by physical stress'. Mitrovic has been ordered to undergo 'complete rest' after his admission in the early hours of Sunday morning.

It comes less than two days after their 2-0 win over Al Feiha with Mitrovic on target in his first game back from a hamstring injury. The attacker was forced to spend two months on the sidelines, which blocked his formidable spell in the Pro League, where he has 13 goals in 14 outings this term.

"It has been a tough two and half months for me, had some problems with my hamstring, injury... after injury," Mitrovic told SSC Sports after Al-Hilal's win on Friday.

"I worked really hard to come back... I can help my teammates... happy with the goal."

Mitrovic netted 40 goals in his maiden season with Al-Hilal following the shock exit from Fulham in 2023. The 30-year-old continued his form in the Middle East after establishing himself as a key player for Fulham following a frustrating period at St James' Park - where he scored 17 goals in 72 outings.

Reflecting on his time with the Magpies, Mitrovic told the Mail in 2018: "I grew up on Alan Shearer and Didier Drogba but now the game has turned round. Teams want fast players. That’s not me. But I know my strengths.

"Rafa Benitez plays defence and counter-attack. I tried to give my best but it wasn’t me.

"I was just running and getting in the team shape. He told me what he wanted and I tried but I am 90 kilos and if I run so much defensively I have no power left when I am in the box.

"He knew I couldn’t play in that style and I felt it too. Defensively he was one of the best and you can see that when they play, but personally, I like to be close to the opponents’ box.

"I need crosses and service. I try to pay (Fulham manager) Slavisa (Jokanovic) back because he did everything to bring me here.

"Sometimes I will score, and sometimes I won’t, but I give 100% for him. Rafa Benitez is a great person and in the end (when I left) I shook his hand.”
