England fans savage Thomas Tuchel for picking Jordan Henderson over Premier League star
Thomas Tuchel revealed his first England squad on Friday ahead of games against Latvia and Albania but the German’s selection has not been warmly received by all Three Lions fans
England fans have slammed Thomas Tuchel’s ‘wild’ decision to name Jordan Henderson in his first squad.
The Three Lions take on Albania and Latvia later this month in World Cup qualifiers at Wembley. And there were a few tweaks to the squad named by the former Chelsea boss.
Marcus Rashford and Reece James have been called up, while Newcastle defender Dan Burn has earned a debut call-up. But one decision in particular has left fans baffled.
Former Liverpool midfielder Jordan Henderson has been recalled to the squad despite now being 34. He has endured a tricky few seasons after leaving Saudi side Al-Ettifaq in favour of Ajax.

Alongside some laughing emojis, one fan wrote: “Jordan Henderson. Rashford and Solanke hardly deserve it either, even Ebs [Eberchi Eze] fortunate when you think Gibbs-White and even Hudson Odoi have been left out! (Kinda glad Wharton has).”
Another responded: “He’s called up Jordan Henderson and not Gibbs White wow,” while a further fan added: “Picking Henderson over MGW and Wharton could be considered gross misconduct in the workplace”
The criticism for Tuchel’s debut squad continued to roll in, with many questioning the decision to include Henderson over Nottingham Forest star Morgan Gibbs-White. Another fan said: “Probably as a bad a squad as Southgate or Carsley. Jordan Henderson at 34? No Braithwaite? No Nwaneri? Gibbs-White and Anderson at Forest?”
Another England supporter added: “Jordan Henderson in a 2025 England squad over Morgan Gibbs-White. The Tuchel Era at England is going to be a rich treat,” with a final fan adding: “Jordan Henderson getting a call-up to the England squad in 2025 is wild.”

Henderson joined Ajax midway through last season after leaving Al-Ettifaq. He has gone on to make 50 appearances for the club since then, while he has also been given the captain’s armband.
Henderson was linked with a move away from Ajax in January, with reports suggesting that he had requested to leave for French side Monaco. That saw the armband stripped from him ahead of a Europa League clash with Galtasaray. Henderson eventually ended up staying with Ajax. He has not made an appearance for England since 2023.
