Fenerbahce boss Jose Mourinho was left on the wrong side of a Europa League thriller after Rangers saw off his side to reach the quarter-final stage after a dramatic penalty shoot-out.

Sebastian Szymnansk’s double that saw Barry Ferguson ’s side lose 2-0 as their aggregate advantage was cancelled out - but they would push the visitors all the way through 120 minutes.

Jack Butland would be the hero for Rangers as Fener missed three penalties to spark wild celebrations from Ferguson and his players.

And while the Rangers players lapped up the atmosphere after the full-time whistle, it was a very different story for Mourinho as he raged about the refereeing calls - insisting his side had been denied three penalties on the night.

However, tensions appeared to have cooled following his post-match fury with images now surfacing of the legendary boss entering the home dressing room to congratulate Ferguson and his players.

Footage from Rangers TV followed Mourinho after the game as he made his way down through Ibrox before meeting assistant coach Neil McCann outside the door.

He ask him "is the coach in?" in reference to Ferguson before entering the dressing room to shake Ferguson's hand.

Ferguson had revealed the conversation in his post-match press conference, stating: "Jose Mourinho came into the dressing room and wished me all the best.

"He is one of the best managers there is and I have full respect for everything he has done."

Some fans also spotted kid Bailey Rice jokingly gesturing with a Rangers scarf behind the former Chelsea, Real Madrid and Manchester United boss. A punter noted on X: 'Look at those scarf antics from Rice."

One fan joked that could be a prediction of the multi-time Champions League winner becoming permanent boss: "Wee bit of foreshadowing from Bailey Rice."

Another added: "Rice pretending to put the scarf on him has me in stitches."

Ultimately, the youngster thought better of placing it on his shoulders - but some Ibrox diehards reckon it might not be too long until Mourinho is lofting the scarf above his head as Philippe Clement's permanent successor.

A fan added cheekily: "Jose looks so comfortable in his new surroundings…..he has that gravitas that most other managers simply don’t have."

Another motive for the dressing room visit was detected: "Fair play Jose checking out his new digs for June." A fellow supporter rounded off: "Classy...would be a great fit for the club."
