Newcastle United fans have been advised to allow plenty of time to travel down to London for the Carabao Cup final against Liverpool on Sunday afternoon (4:30pm kick-off).

Eddie Howe's side defeated Arsenal 4-0 on aggregate to book a place in the final at Wembley. Anthony Gordon scored in both legs while Alexander Isak and Jacob Murphy were also on the scoresheet.

The Magpies go in search of lifting silverware for the first since 1955 when they defeated Manchester City 3-1 in the FA Cup. Those who have secured tickets, will have to allow plenty of time for their trip.

There is planned engineering work set to take place over the weekend. Information from the London North Eastern Railway website reads: "Engineering: Due to major planned engineering work between Newcastle and York, an amended LNER timetable is in operation on this date. For further detail about the work taking place, please visit our engineering page.

"Busy trains: LNER services between the North East and London King's Cross are also expected to be busy on this date due to a football fixture at Wembley. Please check your journey and reserve a seat before you travel. Most trains are now fully reserved and if you are travelling without a seat reservation, you may need to stand for your journey.

"Planned engineering work is also taking place on this weekend, meaning that LNER trains won’t be calling at Durham and Darlington, and journey times between Newcastle and London King’s Cross are also extended by around 60 minutes due to trains operating on a diversionary route. We have been able to add some extra trains to our timetable across the weekend to provide additional seats for customers and for those travelling to and from the match.

Tickets for these additional trains are now on sale. Customers travelling on these additional services between Newcastle and York are advised to use existing LNER services between York and London King's Cross to complete their journey. If you are travelling during this period, we recommend leaving plenty of time to arrive at the station and checking for the latest updates before you travel. While most customers will be travelling from stations in the North East, trains across our entire route will be busy."
