I saw the Jeremy Doku moment that had Man City fans streaming for the exits - it summed up his season

The moments you might have missed as Manchester City took on Brighton in the Premier League at the Etihad Stadium.

Manchester City took a point against top four rivals Brighton in a Premier League contest that summed up City's shortcomings at both ends of the pitch.

City took the lead through an Erling Haaland penalty before Pervis Estupinian curled in a free kick to level. Omar Marmoush's rocket was enough to send the Blues in ahead at the break, but Brighton were quickly back on level terms after the break thanks to an unfortunate Abdukodir Khusanov own goal.

Neither side could find a winner, keeping City a point ahead of Brighton in the search for a Champions League spot. These are the moments you might have missed as Manchester City took on Brighton on Saturday:

What Haaland did after his goal

The penalty was stone-wall but there was still a delay for it to be checked, leaving Haaland with plenty of time to decide where to put it.

Brighton goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen attempted to distract the striker by standing off his line for as long as possible, yet Haaland was unfazed and sent Verbruggen the wrong way. He raced into the corner, fist-pumping when he got there, and when the squad turned to get back to their half, Haaland stopped again.

He offered a few more fist-pumps back to the South Stand to gee them up for the rest of the game. It had only been two starts since his last goal, but Haaland looked both relieved and delighted to get back among the goals. Or maybe he knew he'd just become the first player to reach 100 goal involvements in under 100 Premier League appearances - an impressive record to add to his ridiculous collection.

Guardiola's tough love for Marmoush

Seconds after Marmoush rifled a rocket into the bottom corner to score his fourth goal in a City shirt, and the fans had shown their appreciation with audible gasps for the replay of the strike, and he was in trouble.

Brighton went back on the attack and won a free kick when a combination of Marmoush, Ilkay Gundogan and Nico Gonzalez couldn't win the ball. Guardiola, having celebrated Marmoush's goal moments earlier, was now on the Egyptian's case.

The boss bellowed instructions to his number seven, telling him where he should have been and what to do next. It was a quick bump back down to earth after another impressive goal to go with an impressive start to life at City.

Doku moment has fans heading for exits

91 minutes. City need a goal. Jeremy Doku skips past one player then a second and can either shoot or clip in a cross. He elects for the cross, but it's high and over everybody. It was the story of his afternoon where he would have fans on their feet with some trickery or a dropped shoulder - and then the final ball would not be the right one.

You could say it was the story of his entire City career. After that overhit cross, hundreds of fans headed for the exits after another frustrating afternoon of City's inconsistent attack.

Both Haaland and Marmoush scored and there were flashes of promise from both Savinho and Doku - but not enough. By full-time, Marmoush and Savinho were off and the home fans felt there wouldn't be a winner after Doku's cross. They were right.

Bernardo substitution confusion

Bernardo Silva was the first substitute to be brought on just before the hour mark. But he wouldn't complete the afternoon as he was replaced with around ten minutes to go. After stopping for a knock, Bernardo then looked shocked and upset to see his number go up and Phil Foden jogging on from the other touchline.

Bernardo stopped on the opposite side for a moment before gingerly walking around the pitch to sustained applause from the City supporters. He chatted with Kevin De Bruyne, who was warming up, and then appeared to be shaking his head and sighing as he took his place on the bench.

He was clearly limping, but also appeared to think he could continue. Was it a case of miscommunication between player and bench - or was Bernardo simply overruled when City had a game to win?

Bernardo was the first City player to leave the Etihad after the game, rushing out past the media with somewhere to be. Whatever the issue that forced him off, it didn't look to stop him making a hasty exit.

Grealish jokes with referee

Cast your mind back to last season when all was well (enough) at City. An entertaining 3-3 draw with Tottenham was almost up when Haaland played Jack Grealish through on goal with nobody to beat but the goalkeeper. And then referee Simon Hooper pulled play back for a foul on Haaland, sparking a furious backlash from City and one of the season's most iconic images of Haaland roaring in Hooper's face.

Hooper has since returned to the Etihad twice as ref, plus taking charge of last season's trip to Nottingham Forest. And he was back in charge at the Etihad on Saturday, taking high fives from hospitality guests waiting pitchside outside the tunnel. As Hooper ended his warm-ups and walked back to the tunnel, he passed Grealish and fellow substitutes De Bruyne and Mateo Kovacic.

The four shared a joke, led by Grealish and Hooper, and the referee chuckled as he went down the tunnel - have City got over that contentious decision 15 months ago against Spurs? Grealish is under pressure at City and still without a league start in 2025. He was in good spirits, though, creeping up behind Brighton's injured defender (and England teammate) Lewis Dunk, who was watching his own side warming up from the technical area.

It would be the last laugh for Grealish, he was unused again on another afternoon where City needed a goal and Guardiola looked past him.
