Fulham 2-0 Tottenham Hotspur - Ryan Sessegnon nets late to help sink former side Spurs to 15th Premier League defeat

Fulham moved to within three points of a UEFA Champions League place after twice striking late to clinch a 2-0 victory against Spurs at Craven Cottage.

Rodrigo Muniz and Ryan Sessegnon, the latter playing against his former club, came off the bench to score the decisive goals.

The first half was a non-event, with the only good opportunity at either end falling to the Fulham right-back Timothy Castagne. He looked surprised to have such a clear chance and shot straight at Guglielmo Vicario.

Spurs, who made seven changes after playing in Europe on Thursday night, introduced a number of regulars in the second half and were more of a threat.

Dominic Solanke missed a couple of decent chances – the first with his head, the second on the volley – before Muniz steered Fulham ahead in the 78th minute after a nice lay-off from Andreas Pereira.

Sessegnon came off the bench in the 87th minute and had an instant impact, finishing majestically past Vicario after holding off Ben Davies.

The victory lifts Fulham from 10th to 8th, three points behind Manchester City in fifth. That position will almost certainly be enough for a Champions League place. And with nine games to go, Fulham are deservedly in the conversation.

Spurs were the better team for much of the second half but didn't take their chances. Fulham did.

Ryan Sessegnon, who has been on the pitch for less than a minute, seals victory with a fabulous goal against his old club! He ran onto a long ball from Leno, resisted the challenge of Davies and cracked a superb finish into the top corner.

This would be a welcome victory for Fulham, who went into today's match having taken only seven points from the last seven Premier League games at Craven Cottage.

The substitute Rodrigo Muniz breaks the deadlock. Odobert - who had only just come on the field to replace Mathys Tel - was robbed in his own half by Robinson, who played a give and go with Willian and crossed into the middle. There was a bit of a scramble before Andreas teed up Muniz, who guided a very precise low shot into the corner from 12 yards.

Vicario's punch only goes as far as Willian, who curls a shot just wide of the far post from 20 yards. It's anyone's game still.

Tel's curler from the edge of the area is pushed away by the flying Leno. Maddison chests the rebound towards Solanke, whose instinctive volley from eight yards goes over the bar. That was a really good chance, even if he had to take it quickly.

Spurs' last goalless draw in the Premier League was at Brentford in April 2022. That little piece of trivia may be about to go the way of the Dodo.
