Ex-Newcastle United star Allan Saint-Maximin has fired a message after the club's Carabao Cup triumph.
The Magpies won their first major domestic trophy in 70 years following their 2-1 win against Liverpool in Sunday's final at Wembley Stadium. Dan Burn opened the scoring in the first half before Alexander Isak doubled Newcastle's advantage soon after the half-time interval - and the rest is history.
That victory for Newcastle came two years after the club lost to Manchester United in the showpiece of the same competition, at the hands of Manchester United. Saint-Maximin started that 2-0 defeat at Wembley in 2023 before leaving St James' Park to join Al-Ahli in the Saudi Pro League a few months later.
Newcastle's social media team posted a photo on Instagram of Isak celebrating his goal in front of the travelling fans. The caption for the post read: "Alexander Isak is quite simply THAT guy."
Saint-Maximin used the post from Newcastle on his own Instagram story and fired a message to old former employers and Isak, who he was teammates with for a year before departing for Saudi Arabia. Saint-Maximin simply wrote: "Legend!"
Saint-Maximin and Isak made 18 appearances alongside one another during the 2022/23 season for Newcastle. After leaving St James' Park, Saint-Maximin made 31 appearances for Al Ahli before joining Fenerbahce, on loan, scoring three goals across 26 appearances this term.
Newcastle will now enjoy a two-week hiatus during March's international break before then returning to Premier League action next month. Eddie Howe's side will next take to the pitch on April 2 when they host Brentford at St James' Park in the top-flight.
