'I'm prepared' - Christian Eriksen makes honest admission about his Manchester United future

Christian Eriksen is likely to leave Man United when his contract expires at the end of this season.

Midfielder Christian Eriksen has said he is "prepared" to start looking for a new challenge ahead of his contract at Manchester United expiring at the end of this season.

Eriksen joined United on a three-year deal in July 2022 and is expected to move on when it expires at the end of June. He joined the club on a free transfer after leaving Brentford at the end of the 2021/22 campaign.

He played a starring role in his first season at Old Trafford, making 44 appearances to help United win the Carabao Cup and secure a top-four finish. However, he has struggled to nail down a regular starting place since the beginning of last season.

Turning 33 last month, the expectation is Eriksen will be released at the end of the campaign, as United prepare for what is going to be the biggest summer transfer window they have faced in years. Despite the uncertainty that currently surrounds his future, the Dane has been in a similar situation before.

As quoted by Danish publication Tipsbladet, Eriksen said: "I haven't thought about it that much. It's the same principle as last time, the contract expires in the summer, so in my head I'm prepared to find something new.

"I'm actually fine with that, whatever it is, it's not something I've decided yet."

Eriksen, who has played 27 times for United this season, scoring four goals, said his next move will have to be what is right for him and his family.

"I haven't made any firm decision that I'm going to do this or that," he continued.

"Earlier in my career, before I had the cardiac arrest, I had played in England for many years, and I was transferred abroad, to Inter, and then I thought I'm not going back to England. Two years later I came back to England, and now I've been there for almost four years.

"There are things you just can't plan in your career, so I don't have any things I really want to try. I'll see what comes and what suits me and the family well."

Asked whether he could return to Ajax for a second spell, Eriksen added: "I'm not closing the door on anything. I'll see what comes up and whether it's something that fits.

"That was last summer [Ajax had interest]. We'll have to see where they stand this summer. Of course, it's also about the interest from the other side and not just from the player."
