Paul Robinson reckons Thomas Tuchel's mission for instant success as England boss could damage the legacy Gareth Southgate left behind.

Southgate led England to a World Cup semi final and two Euros finals, while blooding a host of young international stars of the future, but failed to win a trophy.

Tuchel replaced him last year, and was handed an 18-month deal and instructions to focus on winning the World Cup in 2026. Unless he wins the greatest prize of all, the German is not expected to hang around as Three Lions boss.

And former England goalkeeper Robinson admits Tuchel doesn't care what happens with the national team in the next four or five years.

Robinson told Betfred: "He's already proven that he's not afraid to pick players for the here and now - and he only has an 18-month contact.

"So his remit as England manager is to win the World Cup, and he’s not here to build a team for the future.

"Because he’s left younger players out of the squad that others expected to be in the squad, but he doesn’t care what happens with England in the next four or five years.

"Gareth Southgate put a very good infrastructure in place and he did a really good job at rejuvenating that squad, bringing younger players in.

"And you look at the success they've had through that timeline, it doesn’t bother Thomas Tuchel. He wants them to win now - and he’s going to pick the players now that are going to help them do that."
