Alisson gesture for Brazil speaks volumes as Liverpool release statement on injury
Alisson was in action for Brazil overnight, but the match didn't end so well after picking up a possible injury.
Alisson's gesture during Brazil's World Cup qualifier against Colombia has gone viral on social media. The Liverpool shot-stopper led a little boy - who was in a wheelchair - on to the pitch as the teams lined-up.
He then stood behind him and kneeled down before singing the national anthem. That moment - captured by TNT Sports Brazil - has since had lots of reaction and comments on Instagram.
One of the comments was made by the boy's grandmother, who wrote: "Theo is my grandson, that little, big man. The goalkeeper walked with him to the stadium and it was very rewarding to see. My grandson felt radiant... He's a miracle in our lives, his story is of resilience and his happiness is contagious to everyone."
Theo's family later shared some pictures of the moment on social media. Their post read: "More than football, it's about believing in miracles."
Alisson's night, though, ended abruptly when he was forced off during the second half after colliding with former Tottenham Hotspur defender Davinson Sanchez. Liverpool have released a statement which read: "Alisson Becker has departed the Brazil national team set-up and he will return to Liverpool.
"The goalkeeper was forced off in the second half of his nation's World Cup qualifier against Colombia in the early hours of Friday following a collision. Alisson is travelling back to Merseyside. He will undergo assessment from the Reds' medical staff."
Brazil's team doctor Rodrigo Lasmar provided a full update on Alisson's condition after the Liverpool goalkeeper was substituted in the win over Colombia. Lasmar confirmed that Alisson had suffered a head injury, with further tests needing to be carried out.
"Alisson suffered a trauma to the head region, he was replaced by a suspected concussion," said Lasmar - via CNN Brazil. "Now we will do all the CBF protocol, it will undergo recommended imaging tests, a computed tomography, then a resonance with diffusion.
"If all the tests are normal, we will follow up and do a cognitive test. And then we will evaluate the player. In the possibility that everything is normal, we will make a sequence of observations in the coming days. Today, we will do the tests, all the necessary evaluations.
"Alisson is [feeling] normal, with no complaints. He reported no fainting and no memory loss. He thought it was a little slower. In this complaint, the recommended is the replacement of the player."
