Manchester United legend Bryan Robson has been told to mind his own business over Marcus Rashford.

Robson has spoken out on Rashford’s move from Old Trafford to Aston Villa, taking exception to the suggestion the 27-year-old is enjoying his football again after his struggles with the Red Devils which culminated in him being frozen out by Ruben Amorim before his loan switch to Villa Park.

Rashford has impressed since joining Villa, who have an option to sign him permanently for £40m in the summer, helping them to both the Champions League and FA Cup quarter-finals and in the battle for a top-four finish in the Premier League.

But Robson thinks the player’s career should never have reached this point - and wants to see him back with United from next season.

"Well, I haven't come out publicly and said anything, but the TV pundits drive me crazy," Robson said.

"I'm talking about ex-players saying that as soon as he went to Villa, he was enjoying his football again.

"Hold on a minute. You are so fortunate to be a football player. If I'm at Man United, I'm enjoying my football, or I should be enjoying my football, and I'm going to work hard to try and make the team successful.

"So when you go to Villa, it's no different from playing for Man United. You try and enjoy your game and do the best you can. So there's no excuses."

"Marcus has unbelievable talent and should be doing better for Manchester United,” he added.

“He shouldn't even be moving on to Aston Villa. He should be giving his best for Man United.

"(Whether he comes back) is the manager's and Marcus's decision. But for me, he's got the talent, and you've got to get the best out of him.

"And Marcus has got to get the best out of himself, and he should be a Man United player next year."

Here’s what Villa fans have been saying on the matter on Birmingham Live and our Villa Facebook page:

avillain: So does Bryan Robson understand the toxic environment at MUFC? …. and probably all down to his wages!! I don’t think that for one second that Marcus wanted this to happen but glad he’s at a club that will look out for him and develop him further under Emery UTV

Kenhants: Aston Villa are a far better team than Man. U and Rashford can return to his best form playing for them. Unfortunately Robson has a very blinkered view and Man. U are on the down whereas Villa are on the up

Samantha Jayne: I have never seen Marcus Rashford look so happy, since being at Aston Villa he's not stopped smiling and us villa fans are honoured to have him. Keep up the good work Marcus .

Gareth Hulse Morgan: What a surprise ex Utd player thinks he knows everything. FACT is Manchester United are in total mess top to bottom owners think that building a 2 billion pound stadium fixes everything. It’s laughable

Mandy Ryan: Bryan, mind your own business
