'Confused' Chris Sutton clamps Rangers claims aired by Barry Ferguson as he doubts boss has cracked anything
The interim boss could barely hide his frustrations but his fellow Record Sport pundit wasn't buying it
Miffed Chris Sutton has raised serious doubts Barry Ferguson has cracked anything at Rangers after their pulsating 4-3 comeback away to Dundee.
The interim boss could barely hide his frustrations despite the stunning victory after trailing 3-1 midway through the second half and insisted he knows what went on for long spells in the City of Discovery.
James Tavernier and Tom Lawrence dragged Rangers level before Cyriel Dessers won it, however, Ferguson, believes his team wouldn't have won it under predecessor Philippe Clement as he vented about old habits returning.
But Sutton – no novice at locking horns with his fellow Record Sport pundit – was adamant there was no time for self praise with Rangers 13 points behind Celtic.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Sutton said: "I was really, sort of, confused by some of things Barry said there. He was certain a few weeks ago they would have lost that game, I don't know how he can be certain of that.
"He sort of came across as he'd cracked it when he spoke about old bad habits creeping back in again. Because they beat Celtic it doesn't mean they should be getting the bunting out.
"That was a one off, they did well to beat Fenerbahce, I think there is a lot of work for Barry and his coaching team to do.
"He is coming out and talking about things turning around, and I think that is very hard to judge at this moment in time. I still have massive doubts about Rangers.
Ferguson was searingly honest about his charges at the final whistle.
He said: "Really happy with the three points, but I saw so many old habits creeping in. I'm not going to allow that to happen.
"We've got a full week now and that's something we'll look at. At stages of the game I was baffled.
"They showed character though, they never gave in. I just felt when we got the goal to go 3-2 that we could get three points.
"They were warned you have to be physical and match your opponent and we never did that in the first half. I made changes but I shouldn't have to.
"We can't be happy with the performance. I need to get to the bottom of it and I will get to the bottom of it."
