Arsenal will have fresh contract conversations with star forward Bukayo Saka after his return to action, according to reports.

The England international has been out of action after undergoing surgery but is nearing a return to competitive action for the North London club.

Reports suggest that talks will begin over a new long-term contract, with new sporting director Andrea Berta overseeing operations, however there is no rush with two years remaining on his current deal.

The Gunners are reportedly looking to bring Sporting CP hotshot Viktor Gyokeres to the Premier League.

According to reports, new sporting director Andrea Berta is an admirer of the Swedish striker and will look to explore avenues to bring him to the Emirates Stadium. The Gunners have had long-standing issues in their attacking areas and their lack of firepower has been laid bare by the injury troubles during this season.

The likes of Aston Villa's Ollie Watkins and Newcastle United star Alexander Isak have been touted as possible additions for Mikel Arteta's side but the club's transfer officials have failed to make in-roads in their respective pursuits.

It has been claimed that with the prospect of signing Isak unlikely, unless a lofty transfer fee is tabled, Gyokeres is seen as an option after firing his way onto the radar's of Europe's elite.

In other news, Arsenal remain well-placed to sign Zubimendi from Real Sociedad once the trading period opens. Also rumours have emerged that the Gunners could look to test the resolve of Liverpool for attacker Luis Diaz.

The Colombian has endured a difficult season at Anfield and reports over his future have intensified. Barcelona are said to be keeping tabs on him, while speculation suggests what lies ahead hinges on whether the Anfield club can table terms for an extension.

Arsenal have emerged as potential candidates, although Fabrizio Romano has stifled claims - suggesting there is nothing to report in terms of North London interest.

Berta on Simeone collision course with over transfer decision

Andrea Berta could be set for a transfer battle with his former employers.

The Gunners confirmed on Sunday that Berta would become the club's new sporting director, replacing Edu, who left the club in November. Jason Ayto had been serving in the role in interim charge since Edu's departure, and was linked with getting the job on a full-time basis before Berta's appointment.

Berta had previously worked at Atletico Madrid before making the switch to Arsenal and will now be in charge of leading the club's transfer plans going forward. And it seems that, based on recent reports, Berta could be faced with the task of going up against his former clubs as one of his first jobs.

Arteta confirms Calafiori blow after another injury with Italy

Ricardo unfortunately picked up an injury again with the national team.

It's really unfortunate the way it happened. It could have been worse, so hopefully, it will be a matter of weeks, but we'll have to see how that injury evolves.

Knee injury, yes. Yeah, two injuries. They were picked up with the national team.

One was a kick, and the other was a really bad turn twist when he slips with the surface. And the other one was muscular, but, I mean, the main two injuries that he had, very little to do, very unfortunate.

"Some things you can't control but I couldn't leave the club in the middle of the season, in a difficult situation, in the relegation zone.

Arsenal transfer latest: Luis Diaz links

Liverpool winger Luis Diaz is the latest to be linked with a move to Arsenal.

Or is he?

According to Fabrizio Romano, while the future of the Colombian looks somewhat uncertain, it appears that there is no possibility of an Arsenal move as it stands.

Writing in his column, he said: "My information at the moment is that there is nothing advanced or concrete in terms of new contract talks at Liverpool.

"Let’s see what happens in the final months of the season, if Liverpool decide to offer a new deal to Diaz, or if they decide to part ways in the summer transfer window.

"My information is that already in January there was some interest from the Saudi Pro League, with clubs approaching Diaz.

"He wanted to stay at the club and Liverpool didn’t want to change the squad at that moment, so nothing happened.

"But there is already interest from several clubs around Europe in Diaz and also abroad. There’s interest from Saudi, as mentioned, but he’s also appreciated by some people at Barcelona.

"It’s still early in this story, but in general there is a feeling that Diaz, as well as Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez, could be leaving Anfield in the summer transfer window.

It’s not guaranteed yet, but it’s a strong possibility and one to watch. I have nothing to report on the links with Arsenal, but let’s see between now and the end of the season what happens with the Colombian winger."
